• Easy Savoury Scrolls

These are so delicious! You can put anything for the filling really, but I chose to make these ones savoury and put tomato paste, pesto and cheese inside. RECIPE Ingredients: 300ml warm water 1 teaspoon yeast 1/2 teaspoon sugar 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt Filling 1 tablespoon tomato paste 1 tablespoon pesto 1/2 cup grated cheese 1. In a large bowl, add the water, sugar and yeast. Mix it around with a fork then leave to stand for 10 minutes. 2. Add the flour and salt to the mixture and mix it round with the fork until it comes together. 3. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes.…

  • Sustainable Clothing

Welcome back! How are you going on your zero waste journey? I had one of those moments over the weekend, where I went to just put a few things away and have a bit of a tidy up in the wardrobe, and it turned into a full on clear out! And boy did it feel good. It got me thinking how I should recycle or re-use the clothes I no longer need. A lot of the stuff can’t be taken to the op shop because it is too worn out or it’s my old undies, that clearly nobody else is ever going to want. I realised that my undies and…

  • Zero Waste Easter Ideas

Wow, is it nearly Easter already? I don’t know about you, but this whole lockdown thing seems to be going pretty quick for me! I have been thinking about finding some zero waste arts and crafts for the kids to do this week, and I started thinking, you know what, wouldn’t it be fun to have a Christmas style celebration? By that I mean, make each other a small gift and prepare a nice dinner together, maybe have some wine.. you know? Of course the Easter Bunny will be coming, and hopefully he brings some zero waste treats. Maybe he will bring some healthy carrots too! Although I’m sure kids…

  • How to Stay Happy During Lockdown

Hey, how are you going? It has been really nice having some good family time lately. On Saturday we were just relaxing with a glass of wine on the deck, and some quiet music. Then Archer decided he wanted us to play his favourite song so he could dance to it. He loves dancing. Before we knew it, the whole family was joining in, even Lucas! Wow, I didn’t even know he could dance like that! We had such a great time, I thought I would share it. Such an easy and uplifting way to pass the time! https://youtu.be/l6F9a4QQs0A Catch up soon, Maria

  • Zero Waste Toilet Paper

Didn’t think I would go there? Well here it is! To be honest I did not think I would ever go there either. Well, to be honest, I haven’t actually brought myself to try the toilet paper alternatives yet, but I have been doing a lot of brainstorming amidst the toilet paper crisis! Maybe you never considered going zero waste with your toilet paper either, but you ran out. But you couldn’t just buy more because everyone had raided every store you went to. Now you are looking for other options. Or has this been on your wish list?! Strange thing to have on your wish list, but hey, maybe…

  • How to Reduce Your Recycling

Happy Friday! Hope you have great things planned for the weekend. I am going to practise visualising myself on a tropical island for the weekend. Or catch up with my friends for a virtual wine together. I know I don’t usually post on Fridays, but it seems I have a little more time on my hands lately… I know there are people out there wondering what they are going to do with all their recycling now that some regions have cancelled the recycling thanks to COVID-19. Well, now maybe a good time to do a recycle bin audit, and see what is in there that you could avoid buying. Or…

  • Happy Thoughts

Hi friend! How are you holding up? I hope your kids or significant other aren’t driving you crazy already. My lovely husband got a “round tuit” this morning, and cleared back a whole lot of hedge that was over hanging our property. I hear round tuits are quite rare, so lucky he got one! Here in New Zealand, we go into lockdown tonight. Although we have been encouraged to stay home for the last 2 days. We are told it will last for 4 weeks minimum. I am working from home while our Au Pair looks after the kids. There isn’t as much work on as usual for us though…

  • Taking Things Back to Basic

In this crazy time we are in at the moment, in the midst or a worldwide pandemic, in a way we have been forced to hit the reset button. I guess over the years it has become normal to have more. We want more. We need more. But do we really? Now that we are being cut off from some of the items we want or need as people raid shops and supermarket shelves, it’s a good time to sit back and think, how much do I actually need to survive? Joshua Becker (author of “The More of Less”) believes that having less stuff actually makes you happier because it…

  • Corona Virus and Zero Waste

So I have been sitting back watching while the world goes crazy over Corona Virus, aka COVID-19. The supermarket shelves have been cleared out by crazy people going to stock up on food and toilet paper (?) so they can go and self isolate. The stock markets are dropping. Events are being cancelled worldwide. Flights are cheap… nobody wants to fly anywhere anymore. It’s all madness. But how will the zero waste movement be affected? I have heard a lot of talk on this topic, which I believe started by Starbucks making the decision to stop accepting reusable cups. I believe that people who have already incorporated zero waste into…

  • The Best Breadmaker Bread

Hello! I am so happy to be writing this post today. Fresh bread in the morning is one of my favourite things about going zero waste. And probably the ONLY thing my husband likes about going zero waste. The bread is actually his thing. He loves putting all the ingredients in the breadmaker at night and putting the timer on so it will be ready for him just as he wakes up in the morning. There is nothing better to wake up to than the smaell of freshly baked bread wafting through your house! We have tried many recipes, and most were a bit hit and miss. We played around…
